Back At It!

I’ve been on the Instagram scene, but have forgot about the blogging front due to personal changes. Sometimes, life is chaotic to do all the necessary things we want to accomplish.

Oh mother— where have we left off?! Is this one of those relationships that we rekindle instantly after being distant for 10 months?! I hope so. We now have 5 lady ducks (two of which I adopted last Fall [I’m crazy]). Five whole Lady Birds! They’re wonderful. Ducks, in my opinion, are waaaay better than chickens. But, I’m also not quite a dog person. So personal preference here doesn’t mean anything. 🙂

We also had bees, too. Although, if you’ve been following our social media, you know it has been a struggle. The apiary I purchased from sent bees the day we left for a “mini” vacation (even after I contacted them months prior stating my mini vacation– worst communication ever– I even made a BBB complaint about their lack of communicating efforts). I promise you, I NEVER GO ANYWHERE! The ducks won’t let me. We arrived back home to almost an entire colony collapse. I thought they were going to make it, but all the rain proved to be too much and they dissipated. Looks like if I want to yield some amazing pumpkins from our garden this Fall, I am going to have to finger pollinate (yes–it’s as weird as it sounds).

Last month, everything was lush and green over here at Ferngully. The air smelled damp and sweet (that must’ve be the peonies) and the CICADAS were out. I’ve never had the pleasure to see the 17 year cicadas. Their harmonization was like that of a Wes Craven movie. Haha. Brood VIII. Sounds like the title of a horror film, no?!

Weird side fact– did you know that ants help open peony flowers?! Say it to someone and they’ll look at you like you’ve just blew their minds! Haha. At least that’s the vibe I got when I told someone. At least, I think that’s the vibe. I’m terrible at reading people.

I’m also terrible at blogging. But if you’re here to read the humor and train wreck that is appealing over here at Modern Day Homesteading, I promise to fulfill you with the notion knowing I have little to no idea what I am doing over here. It’s a hobby for sure. A very expensive hobby. 🙂

Happy to be back!

Bee Tin

Bee still my “Bee Tin” heart. Get it? To memorialize my efforts of what transpired whilst trying to keep bees this year– we picked up this pretty little ceiling tin decor thing. Sometimes it’s you. Sometimes it’s not you– and things are out of your control.
